Carluccio's was one of the first restaurants that I found had an entirely separate gluten-free menu, and not a tiny one either! I was really excited to finally go to an Italian restaurant again, without having to have a salad...
The Bury St Edmunds branch is in the Arc complex, right by the car park, which is very convenient. It was the first restaurant we took Amelia to when she was only a few weeks old, and one that we frequently revisit, as we feel comfortable taking her there.
As well as a stand alone gluten-free menu, they have a separate kids menu, which has a meal deal for a main and a dessert for £6.50. They can also do smaller portions of anything on the main menu. They have plenty of highchairs and a very accessible baby changing space downstairs. We are always offered a kid's pack - which includes a menu, with puzzles, colouring in and dot-to-dot and a little pack of crayons. I was highly amused to be offered this when Amelia was only five months... but now she loves it!
As the gluten-free menu is so big, I haven't got to try all of it yet, but I already have some favourites. The Mozzarella Fusa is a lovely starter, with Parma ham, rocket, peppers and mozzarella. I often have gluten free pasta as a main course, and have so far enjoyed the Pomodoro e Basilico, Funghi, and Carbonara sauces. I would suggest asking for less salt for a little one as they are fairly heavy-handed with it. The pudding list is the most exciting for me, with my absolute favourite being the Cioccolato Fondente, which is a hot, gooey-centered chocolate pudding with ice cream and a hint of coffee. The Meringa con panna is very good too. Amelia and I shared a fruit salad for pudding last time, which she loved.
The staff seem friendly and willing to accomodate with moving furniture, altering dishes and fetching spare napkins or extra cutlery. It is normally pretty busy, especially at weekends, so it is a good idea to book ahead.
