Amelia and I went to the Creative Education Centre for a taster morning last year. I was struck immediately by how calm the atmosphere was. I have worked with 9 and 10 year olds for a while, and I have never known a classroom to be "calm". All of the children were easy to talk to, and very friendly. They were very welcoming to both of us, and showed Amelia around. They each have an individual learning plan for the week, which they follow in their own order and at their own pace. While the children got on quietly, Amelia and I played with Wendy. She found us a box of coloured stones to show Amelia, and asked her to sort them into different colours and to describe how big they were, or how smooth or rough etc. I felt instantly at ease with how they spoke to her, and more importantly, to how she reacted to a different adult in a position of authority. It has completely opened my mind to a whole world of education I had never considered. Exciting times lie ahead!
