Farmstay in Cornwall
Tregolls Farm in St Wenn grabbed our attention well before we had a child. We stayed in the B&B for our first wedding anniversary and fell in love with it. A wonderfully welcoming, family-run, friendly farm was the perfect setting for our first trip to Cornwall. It struck us then that it would be the ideal place to stay with a child, as it is a working farm set on a very quiet road in the middle of the countryside. We had noticed that as well as the B&B they also had some cottages available to rent, which is what we did this time, along with Amelia and all four of her grandparents. We had a tranquil week, listening to birdsong, sheep and cows through the windows, and not much else, except for a barn owl one night right outside my window. Every morning, we awoke early (for us...) to go and feed all the animals with Lester, the farmer, and to collect eggs to eat for breakfast. Amelia adored this as much as I had done previously, and had got used to our routine of which animal was to be fed next by the end of the week.
The cottage itself was absolutely wonderful. Marilyn had really thought of everything to make our stay as hassle-free as possible, including a batch of freshly baked scones which was waiting for us on arrival. We stayed in Blackberry Cottage, which is upside down in layout, with an open-plan kitchen and living room upstairs, and three bedrooms and two bathrooms downstairs. They had a stairgate at the top of the stairs, so I didn't have to panic about her falling down them (we live in a bungalow, so don't see many stairs!). There was a bed guard and cot available, and a highchair. The farm has some lovely features, as well as the enchanting animals we saw every morning, including some beautiful old barns, some of which are still very much in use by the farmer, and some which have been turned into a games room and laundry for the cottages. There was a playground which led to a lovely farm trail, where you could head up the hill to see the fantastic view, and a large trampoline in the field where the chickens live. We were pretty much off the digital radar in that part of Cornwall, with almost no phone reception or mobile internet, which was refreshing and probably very good for me in particular!
Marilyn and Lester are so friendly and made our stay comfortable, welcoming and memorable. I am sure we will return again another year. It is an ideal place to take your toddler for an exciting holiday on a farm!

You can find out more about the farm, including the B&B and self-catering cottages here. St. Wenn is not far from Wadebridge or Bodmin and the A30, and only a short drive from Newquay airport. You can easily get to Padstow, Watergate Bay or St Austell in under 30 minutes.
There is so much to do in Cornwall with small children it would take forever to see everything, let alone write about it all, but here are a few of the things we have seen and done so far, including Padstow, Falmouth, Lands End, Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Newquay Zoo, Mevagissey, Lamorna Cove, Bedruthen Steps, Hayle and The Eden Project.
Gluten-free friendly!
While we were in Padstow, I managed to find gluten-free fish and chips, a gluten free ice cream cone, and two different Cornish Pasty shops selling delicious gluten-free authentic pasties! On the whole, Cornwall appears to be one of the most allergy friendly counties I have ever been to.
