We stayed three nights in the Old Byre self catering cottage at Rye Hill Farm, Slaley, near Hexham, for a long weekend. We had both sets of grandparents with us. Each room had an ensuite bathroom, and ours had a kingsize bed plus a single bed. We were very comfortable and had fantastic views out of each window. The house was well stocked with everything we needed, and we loved the kitchen/sitting room, which had room for all of us around the table, and on the sofas in the evening.
The farm itself was wonderful. Beautiful views whichever way you look, an array of farm animals to see, including chickens, horses, sheep, cows and some dogs and cats. There was a fabulous mud kitchen area with tree stumps to climb on, between the farm and the campsite.
One of the best things for me, was how relaxed and friendly it felt. We were aware of other people staying at the B&B and on the campsite, but were undisturbed throughout our stay. If we needed any help, the office was right outside our door and the owner was there to answer any questions.
The farm is well placed to visit most of the main attractions in Northumberland, but is nearest to Hexham and Corbridge. We only wished we could have stayed longer, to fit in some more day trips. We spent the rainy day visiting Hexham, and exploring the Abbey, and then the next day, we went to Vindolanda, to visit the museum, the ruins, and to explore Hadrian's Wall.
A very family-friendly, well looked after cottage, and a lovely holiday for us. Thank you!
